How does dissolving filler work?
A doctor injects a small amount of hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid (the basis of most modern fillers). Once broken down, the filler is naturally cleared by your body over the following days. It's a targeted treatment — your doctor assesses what's there and places the enzyme accordingly. See our filler dissolving & correction service.
When might you need it?
Common reasons include: Over-filled or unnatural results you're unhappy with Lumps, unevenness or asymmetry Filler migration (product that has moved beyond where it should be) A fresh start before re-treating an area A complication that needs the filler removed promptly Many people who dissolve filler had it placed elsewhere — correcting others' work is a routine part of what doctors do.
Does it work on all fillers?
No — hyaluronidase only dissolves hyaluronic-acid fillers, which fortunately are the most commonly used type. It won't break down non-HA fillers (e.g. certain permanent or semi-permanent products), which is one reason permanent fillers are riskier — they can't simply be reversed. If you're unsure what you had, tell your doctor as much as you can; they'll assess and advise.
What's the treatment like, and what happens after?
It's a quick injection-based treatment. You may notice some swelling, tenderness or redness afterwards that settles, and the area continues to change over the following days as the filler clears. Sometimes more than one session is needed for stubborn or large amounts. Your doctor will advise on timing if you plan to re-treat the area afterwards (usually you wait for things to settle first). Individual results vary.
Is dissolving filler safe?
In trained medical hands, hyaluronidase is well established and widely used. As with any medical treatment there are considerations (including rare allergy, which is why a doctor assesses you first), so it should be performed by a licensed doctor in a regulated clinic — not a casual setting. If you're anxious about previous work, an appointment can talk you through your options calmly.
