Why does sun exposure matter for laser?
Laser targets pigment, and a tan adds melanin to your skin. That extra skin pigment can compete with the hair for the laser's energy — reducing effectiveness and, with the wrong settings, increasing the risk of burns or pigmentation changes. This is why clinics ask about recent sun exposure and tanning, and why it matters so much in a sunny climate.
Can I really do laser in Dubai's summer?
Yes, with sensible precautions. Many modern systems (especially Nd:YAG-capable platforms) can be adjusted for tanned or darker skin, and consistent cooling protects the surface. The key is that your clinician knows your recent sun exposure and adjusts accordingly — and that you protect the treated skin from the sun between sessions. Stopping treatment for the whole summer often isn't necessary, but planning is.
Before your session: sun and tanning rules
General guidance (always follow your clinician's specific instructions): Avoid deliberate tanning and sunbeds for a couple of weeks before treatment Avoid sunburn entirely — treatment may be postponed on recently burned skin Shave (don't wax or pluck) the area beforehand, as the follicle needs to be intact Disclose any recent sun exposure honestly so settings can be adjusted
After your session: protecting your skin
Treated skin is more sensitive to UV, so aftercare is essential in Dubai: Apply a high broad-spectrum SPF daily and avoid direct sun on treated areas Skip hot showers, saunas, heavy exercise and exfoliation for a day or two Avoid the pool/beach briefly as advised Good sun habits between sessions protect both your skin and your results — see our sunscreen guide.
When is the "best" time for a course?
Some people prefer to start a course in the cooler months so they're finishing before peak summer sun and beach season — but with the right technology and aftercare, treatment can be planned year-round in Dubai. The best time is really "when you can commit to the schedule and the sun precautions." Your clinician will help you plan. Individual results vary.
