How do lasers work on the skin?
A laser delivers focused light energy that's absorbed by a specific target in the skin — water, pigment or the hair follicle, depending on the wavelength. That energy creates a controlled effect: stimulating collagen, breaking down pigment, or disabling hair follicles. Because different targets need different wavelengths, no single laser does everything — which is why clinics use more than one platform.
The main laser platforms we use
- Fotona SP Dynamis— a dual-wavelength (Er:YAG + Nd:YAG) system for rejuvenation, tightening, resurfacing and more, with signature 4D and 7D protocols.
- Hollywood Spectra— a Q-switched laser known for pigmentation, brightening (Hollywood peel, carbon facial) and tattoo removal. Plus dedicated laser hair removal systems.
What can lasers treat?
Depending on the device and settings: facial rejuvenation and skin tightening, pigmentation and uneven tone, acne and acne scars, redness, tattoo removal, hair reduction and more. Laser is usually one part of a wider plan rather than a standalone fix — for concern-specific detail, see our pages on pigmentation, acne scars and skin tightening.
Is laser safe for darker skin?
With the right device and settings, yes — but this is where expertise matters most. Darker skin tones have more melanin, so settings must be chosen carefully to target the intended structure without affecting the skin. Conservative protocols, appropriate wavelengths and an experienced operator are essential. We cover this in detail in our laser for darker skin article — crucial in Dubai's diverse, sun-exposed population.
How to choose the right laser treatment
Start with your concern, not the device name. A good clinic assesses your skin and goals, then recommends the appropriate technology — and is honest if a non-laser option (or a combination) would serve you better. Be wary of one-size-fits-all "laser packages." A appointment with an experienced laser practitioner is the right starting point. Individual results vary.
